Its sole object is to form a basis for discussion. It does not claim to express the views the views of anyone except that circle, and not in particular that of any of the political groups of German émigrés. Even those who intend to return to Germany are not members of any of these groups,, and nothing on these pages is "representative" of any of them. Our discussion circle is not going to be the nucleus of another émigré group. In publishing this book we are not pursuing any personal ambitions. This is why we have chosen to remain anonymous. We hoped to eliminated all those personal factors which are often apt to divert the discussion into channels of émigré "group politics," and thus to contribute to the analysis of the means by which there is a hope to fulfil one of the main tasks laid before our generation: to integrate Germany with Europe and thus to lay one of the foundations of a permanent peace." -- author's note
