In 1994, while Algeria sank into violence, her parents chose to return to live there with their children, facing a series of tragedies tied to the "Black Decade." Why did her parents want to return while everyone who could fled? How do you build a life when you are haunted by the past? The author confronts her memories, tries to fill in the silences and unearth what is hidden.
