In the British seaside town of Broadchurch, Detective Ellie Miller returns from vacation to learn she's been passed over for promotion in favor of outsider Alec Hardy. Escaping the failure of his last case, Alec's having trouble finding his way into this tight-knit community. Rivalry aside, both receive terrible news: 11-year-old Danny Latimer has been murdered. For Ellie it's personal; Danny was her son's best friend. She can't believe anyone would harm him. Alec considers everyone, even Danny's parents, suspect in his death.
