I went into this movie cautious, because I didn't know how I felt about a movie that painted an unrealistic picture of a real life author's experience. Reportedly P.L. Travers severely disliked the movie adaptation of "Mary Poppins" and it was unlikely for Disney to trash itself. Which is exactly what happened; this movie is a sad and moving rose-colored version of the true story. But that doesn't make it less beautiful. The acting by Tom Hanks (Walt Disney) and Emma Thompson (P.L. Travers) is fantastic, their chemistry makes the movie. Along with some very beautiful manipulation of the songs, watching the making of a childhood nostalgia movie. All of it blends together and it works - this movie had me (a cynical person) crying by the end.
