The color, art, and use of the page/panels was really cool. The plot was also very interesting and touching, though this is definitely a book for a mature audience, as it deals with heavy topics and language. (*spoiler*: There is a scene where one of the characters shares her experience with sexual assault, which might be triggering for some.) I enjoyed the book and, once again, the art was beautiful.

Tillie Walden is genius when it comes to colours! Characters and scenery both look great. Everything is really emotive and atmospheric. Both characters are lesbians, but it has minimal impact on the story, which can be a good thing, if you want to see characters who are just living their lives and you aren't looking for a story about a romantic relationship. Unfortunately, the fantastical aspects of the story really aren't very compelling.

I liked the art a lot, but got kind of confused about the plot.

Such a magical book and poignantly handles hard topics really well and I love this book so much and the illustrations are so beautiful!

Yet another wonderful graphic by Tillie Walden. In this one, you meet Bea who
appears to be running away from her past. Bea runs into Lou, who agrees to drive
her to Texas. As they are making their way on the road, they both are forced in to
self-discovery and self-acceptance. The characters are very beautifully written,
and I thoroughly enjoyed the progression of each of their stories. I did find the end
to be a bit odd though, it took more of mythical turn that just didn’t seem to fit or
maybe it was just over my head.

Tillie Walden’s magical novel “are you listening?” does a magnificent job capturing the heartfelt, griefful, and recovering aspects of a friendship between two women. This graphic novel earns four stars due to the astonishing illustrations, somewhat clean writing, and pitiful buried truths. Also, unraveling their pitiful hidden truths supported Bea and Lou to communicate and engage with each other. Although, the title of the novel did not look to incorporate all the topics of the story, and the magical realism caused confusion. All in all, this was a beautiful and whimsical story worthy of setting readers in a trance.

Are You Listening follows two girls driving through West Texas as it shifts beneath them, and as they get to know each other.
The magical surrealism of this comic paid off in about four pages towards the very end; otherwise this book just felt like a fever dream, nightmarish and confusing. I liked those pages, but it could have been a mini comic. I understand that that's how you're supposed to feel, to put you in place of the characters, but I was aggravated because I didn't understand some decisions the characters made.
