Golden Hour is a country and country pop album with a great beat. It won 4 Grammy's at the 61st Grammy Awards including Album of the Year and Best County. It also won the ACMA Album of the year.
Kacey Musgraves' Golden Hour is a country-pop or pop-country (your pick), melodic masterpiece. Each creatively written song is composed and produced with a fun, quirky, eloquent flair which may delight and entertain listeners; each song is a testament to Kacey Musgrave's illustrative vocal ability with her medium range, consistent tone and pitch. Butterflies, a slow-moving tempo, is an ode to the nostalgia of romance and feelings a genuine connection can arise; its rhythm is steady and the lyrics are well-crafted. Golden Hour may be a tad sappy to some with it's praising, sweet, pleasant overtones, but proves to be a solid, dramatic ballad which Kacey Musgraves belts in a slow, rhythmic style evoking essence of glamorous, Old Hollywood vocalists. Her singing aptitude and gifts are apparent to listeners and her capacity to transcend genres enables Musgraves to produce an album which can appeal to a diverse audience. As music aficionados listen to her album a host of genres seem to be recalled, albeit, popular music, country music, electronic pop music and essences of indie music, causing listeners to realize her future works may possibly enable her to work in different music mediums and categories, unlike most artists who may "compartmentalize" their musical production and style to resonate with one sole genre. High Horse is recognition of the haughty and boastfully playful, with an essence reminding listeners despite her optimistic view and perceptions of bonding, friendship and courtship, she is still able to recognize individuals who perhaps elevate themselves in a way that may denigrate others or make others feel inferior in ways. Space Cowboy is another melody doting on when true connections see the fate of a broken relationship, but instead of singing in the vein of an irate, scorned heartbroken woman, she sings gracefully with acceptance of the broken union, even jokingly calling her partner and the song title Space Cowboy, a metaphor for the space they would be embarking on given their newly disintegrated relationship. Kacey Musgraves' Golden Hour is a refreshing, charming take on the introspection and reflection of the many shades of relationships and is worthy of a listening opportunity. - Review Written by Danielle
There aren't many albums I can listen to without skipping a song but this album is just marvelous. Kacey Musgraves has a gorgeous voice. If you think you don't like country music, give this a try.
As a person who is a major Hip Hop head I don't normally listen to Country music but I have to say Kacey Musgraves 'Golden Hour' was a really solid album. It was in heavy rotation for me last Winter and also into the New Year. Can't say enough good things about it. It's got it's country roots but I think it feels more like Indie Folk. The record label really play out her vision which is rare. It even comes as close to Dream-Pop Country as you can get.' If you're an Indie head you'll have an appreciation for 'Golden Hour'. It may not be everyone's thing but don't deny the talent. The song writing alone should be noted and welcomed from hip hop fans in terms of quality and authenticity. This sounds corny, but 'Golden Hour' transcends genre, its brilliant. Hope everyone can give it a fair shake and see why it won Album of the Year at the Grammy's.. No other album was better than 'Golden Hour'.
Very good country-pop album, overall -- "Slow Burn" is quel beautiful and "Space Cowboy" and "Rainbow" are not far behind. If you enjoy any kind of popular music, do yourself a favor and listen to this album at least once.
Golden Hour is one of those albums that is pretty good the first time you listen to it. You latch onto "Slow Burn" and "High Horse," but as you keep listening your favorite song changes. One week it's "Space Cowboy," the next it's "Wonder Woman," next week it's "Love is a Wild Thing," and this goes on and on until you are listening to the whole album through and you're like, "Dang, this is one of the most wall-to-wall great albums I've heard in forever." This is country music for those people who "listen to anything but country."
Kasey Musgraves is the new voice in female country artists and this particular album was nominated for Album of the Year as well as Best Country Album. The album is mellow and sweet, but it didn't really sound like country music to me. It sounded more like gentle pop music. It is relaxing to listen to. -LA
I don't like much contemporary country, but I like this. If "Space Cowboy" isn't your jam, it should be.
Very nice album, great lyrics.....Really liked "Love is a wild thing", "Wonder woman", "Golden hour".....
Seriously one of the best releases of the year. Musgraves never has and probably never will follow the Nashville rules, and we get the benefits. In former days, "Slow Burn" would become a recognized classic, along with the album as a whole, and even though the world doesn't turn that way anymore, it doesn't change the fact that this is a stand-out.
