"When Caroline Sears receives the news that her unborn baby girl has a heart defect, she is devastated. It is 1970 and there seems to be little that can be done. But her brother-in-law, a physicist, tells her that perhaps there is. Hunter appeared in their lives just a few years before--and his appearance was as mysterious as his past. With no family, no friends, and a background shrouded in secrets, Hunter embraced the Sears family and never looked back. Now, Hunter is telling her that something can be done about her baby's heart. Something that will shatter every preconceived notion that Caroline has. Something that will require a kind of strength and courage that Caroline never knew existed. Something that will mean a mind-bending leap of faith on Caroline's part. And all for the love of her unborn child."-- Provided by publisher.

I read this for a book club and I'm glad I stuck with it! I am normally not a fan of time travel but I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It is worth a read!

This was my first Diane Chamberlain. Even though I didn't agree with some of the main character's choices, and would have done things differently, I still enjoyed this book. It was intense, and I found myself skipping to read ahead just to see what would happen!! Though some events were predictable, I loved the intensity and how I just could not tear my eyes away. I loved the time travel aspects, and I wish more things had been explained. However, sometimes science is not easily explainable. Just as powerful is the unshakeable love of family, whether parent/child or sister/sister. Recommended.

I had no idea going into this one that there was a sci-fi element to the story, but it was a happy surprise. Although time travel played a large part, there was also many realistic moments in regards to historical events, medical crisis, and family drama. I found the story captivating and I was moved to tears a number of times. Great women's fiction.

This was one amazing book. I went into this book very hesitantly because it deals with time travel. I have not had a good relationship with time travel books. This is the first book I have read by this author and now I'm curious about the rest of her books. This book made me sad, happy and obsessed all at the same time. The story centers around a woman in the late sixties who loses her husband in the Vietnam war and discovers she is pregnant with a baby who will not survive. She ends up time traveling to 2001 where the medical help is available to save her baby. That's not the end of the story and it just keeps getting better and better.

This is the first book that I have read by Diane Chamberlain. I loved the characters and could sympathize with Carly. First Carly loses her husband and then finds out that the child she is carrying has a heart defect. Hunter, her sister's husband, confronts Carly and let her know that he is a time traveler. Hunter knows in the future there is a surgery that can be performed to save her child's life. Carly, at first, does not believe him but when he tells her something that happens in the future, and it does, she believes and decides to take the leap. It should be an easy trip based on Hunter's calculations but when things happen, the timeline for Carly to return to 1970 keeps getting shifted. A great book about love and sacrifice.
