The authors employ the ground rules of science and the standards of scientific evidence to examine paranormal phenomena such as UFOs, aliens, crop circles, and the alignment of the pyramids. A wide range of topics is discussed, including the reliability of eyewitness testimony, psychological research into why people want to believe in aliens and UFOs, and the role conspiratorial thinking plays in UFO culture. Prothero and Callahan also share their personal experiences of Area 51, Roswell, and other legendary sites.

Add a CommentWell, I did read the book. The manuscript could have used a better editor, proof reader, and fact checker: there was one passage that turned into gobbly-gook, and Joni Mitchell, not Judy Collins, wrote "Both Sides, Now." The most interesting parts of the book for me were the parts about UFO religions. Over all, a worthwile read. BTW, there is someone running for congress who says that she was abducted by (blond and tall) aliens when she was a child, and still has telepathic communications with them occasionally. They have let her know that "God" is an universal energy. Figures she is a Republican.
Although I haven't - - nor intend to - - read this book, a suitable opposing title might be:
WMDs in Iraq, Economic WMDs on Wall Street [credit derivatives] and Aliens Masquerading as Presidents from Johnson on . . .
