"London, 1888. When archeological photographer John de Morgan mysteriously vanishes with a priceless artifact, Victorian adventuress Veronica Speedwell and her natural historian colleague, Stoker Templeton-Vane, are pulled into a dangerous world of conspiracies and ancient threats. De Morgan, now married to Stoker's former wife, Caroline, was part of the Tiverton expedition, an archeological endeavor which stirred the wrath of a vengeful curse when the crew violated the tomb of an ancient Egyptian princess. Since the discovery of the sarcophagus, they have endured a string of freak accidents, sudden waves of illness, and even deaths. They wonder if it's all been an unfortunate coincidence--or if the expedition is really doomed. Rumors abound, with many convinced that de Morgan and Caroline's disappearance was staged so that they could make off with the treasure. But Veronica and Stoker are not so easily persuaded, and they race to separate the fact from the mystical and discover the truth behind the treacherous curse..." -- Provided by publisher.

An excellent addition to the series where Egyptology, cursed expeditions and mummies present all the questions. Veronica and Stoker are engaged to solve the mystery, and it's done in fine style.

Third installment in the Veronica Speedwell mystery series, presented with author's characteristic wit. Another great mystery, this time with a lot of Egyptology background. Some key character questions will finally be answered, while the relationship between Veronica and Stoker slowly deepens. This is a great read!

Love the Veronica saga more and more. The only draw back for me is the anticipated long wait for the next one to come.Deanna Raybourn is a master story teller with a strong emphasis on character building while romance and intrigue followed at a slower pace. This series grows on you.

A delightful addition to the Veronica Speedwell series, this book delves into the Victorian obsession with Egyptology and curses. Veronica is delightfully scandalous and witty, and stoker is an endearing balance of roguish and conscientious.
The romantic build up continues to be agonizingly slow, so if you were hoping for a resolution to the romantic tension you will not find in it this volume. Maybe in the next one.

Brilliant third entry in a great series.
