My family and I LOVED this movie. It's a different twist on dragons, and a great love story.

This is a beautiful film. About as perfect as you might imagine. I started with the English dubbed version, but switched to the subtitled version. It did not disappoint. This is a Beauty and the Beast type story. And it’s done so well it might be my favorite film I’ve seen in a while. I might have to buy a copy.

There is also an option for English dubbing. However, I preferred the subtitles as the English voice actors chosen did not fit the characters, and voicing quality, tone, loudness were poor/inconsistent. Also, distracting non-matching mouth movement which could have been corrected with better word substitution. On a positive note the costumes, settings, props and graphics gave a very real Russian historical culture vibe that was engaging all by itself. The story itself of female sacrifice to a dragon although not unique in storytelling started out as also different & engaging. The acting was also first rate. However, 3/4 of the way through the story got a little too commercial with our sacrificed princess going on a cutesy decorating binge, and to make it worse the film had what sounded like banjo music in the background. The other cheap distractor was the CGI blood vessels in prelude to dragon mode with CGI fire. I would have liked a more creative solution to the change over.
Lastly, a bit of borrowed "How to Train Your Dragon" scenes.

Great movie! Nothing like what I thought it would be, it is very original.
