When Darcy runs off on another secret assignment, Lady Georgina is left to figure out how to travel to Italy sans maid and chaperone to help her dear friend Belinda, as she awaits the birth of her baby alone. What luck-- her cousin the queen is in need of a spy to attend a house party in the Italian lake country! The Prince of Wales and the dreadful Mrs. Simpson have been invited, and Her Majesty is anxious to thwart a possible secret wedding. But Mummy is attending the villa party and she has her own secret task for Georgina. Then, Darcy shows up saying that the fate of a world on the brink of war could very well depend on what she overhears at dinner!

Lady Georgie # 11 - The quest to marry Darcy continues as Lady Georgie finds herself leaving Ireland at the command request of her cousin the Queen of England, stopping off to London on her way to Italy to spy on David, the Prince of Wales. Helping her BFF Belinda deal with a personal problem is Georgie's real reason for going to the same part of Italy. That the Queen is paying for the trip is a bonus.

Finding herself overhearing Nazi plans and finding a dead body would side track anyone but Georgie gathers her Highlander toughness to get the jobs done.

Great twist and turns and some day we will actually see Georgie marry Darcy?

Bowen's 11th series historical mystery (following Crowned and Dangerous) I HAVE NOT READ THIS BOOK!! THE NEW CATALOG SYSTEM CHANGES THE STATUS TO COMPLETED IF YOU ADD A COMMENT. BAD SYSTEM!!!

Lady Georgiana is back, and off to Italy this time. I did guess the killer extremely early in this book – possibly the earliest I’ve ever guessed it in a mystery – so I suppose that should be a strike against this book, but listen. This series is so. much. fun. Georgie and Darcy’s romance continues to develop veeeeeeeryyyyy slooooooowlyyyyyy (though I’m wondering if maaaaybe the next book will involve the lead-up to their wedding? Who knows!), and there’s a fun Italian setting, all the familiar characters make appearances, and there are both nuns AND Nazis. What more does one need, really? A perfect light summer read. (Though I do need to detract a few points from Darcy’s general dreaminess factor for some [totally period-appropriate, but still] slut shaming he does in this book. Not cool, Darcy!)
