I think that if I listened to this repeatedly, I would like it. Like once I got to know it.
My first impression of it was. This guy needs the rest of his old band.
Somebody give this man the Grammy for Album of the Year. I'm serious. I have a distinct feeling that this album will do for 2017 and beyond what Green Day's American Idiot did for 2004. The lyrics are very haunting and mirror what's going on in the world to a T, and the tone is very reminiscent of Waters' more political songs with Pink Floyd. I've only listened to this album from start to finish once, but I can see parallels between it and the Pink Floyd albums The Wall and Animals.
I just can't get into Roger Waters. Each time he releases an album I keep trying and looking for the same magic and feeling of Pink Floyd and I don't receive it. I know I shouldn't expect it. And I'm honestly more a fan of Gilmour's throat.
