This is an okay movie if you like dogs -- also if you don't like dogs, if some onset footage is to be believed (google it). Like Lassie, the dog in A Dog's Purpose brings joy and aid to many humans; unconventionally, he has to die and be reborn many times to do it. There are heartwarming moments, but this film is for adults rather than young children. You may want to avoid it if the thought of your beloved pet dying one day upsets you. Myself, I'm upset that this is the kind of film Lasse Hallstrom is directing now.

Directed by Lasse Hallström in 2017 based on the 2010 novel of the same name by American humorist W. Bruce Cameron, this 100-minute drama delves into the heartwarming relationship between the dog and its owner.
Although it seems like an awkward blend of sugary sentiment and canine suffering that tugs at animal-loving audiences' heartstrings, the film would make you feel profoundly upbeat in the end.

What a great, feel-good movie! I usually read the book first and watch the movie but for this one- I did the opposite as this was recommended by my favorite staff of the SCL mobile in Ardrossan- This one was amazing! A must see for all ages!

Good thing it had a happy ending-SPOILER ALERT HERE!-between the dog's repeated deaths and the abuse the dog took in some of it's incarnations, the movie made me pretty sad overall!

Loved this movie, but you'll need a box of kleenex!

THE dog lovers' movie! [Also liked the book, but the movie's ending, I have to agree, was better and more to the liking of sensitive dog lovers.]
My favorite dog was a German Shepherd, but I also loved my Border Collie/Golden Retriever mix, but then there was that wonderful Newfy, and once had an amazing Akita companion . . .

Loved the book. Loved the DVD perhaps even more, despite the controversy over animal treatment during filming. I especially liked the liberties taken to end the movie differently than the book. Every time Bailey switched to a new dog's body I cried just as much as when I read the book. Powerful story beautifully told.
