Throws away a great story and mars it with a villain of zero interest, Hollywood tropes, and pitiful execution. Why on earth did such good actors agree to be part of this?
Only half entertaining.

Good casting. Not enough story (which was good) and too much gratuitous action/special effects. Sci-Fi is SO-O-O much better if the focus is on story development! Worth viewing, but forgettable -- so much so that we all forgot that we had already seen it! Wasn't better the second time. ;)

I enjoyed the original TV show, but was much more impressed by the later series in the franchise. "The Inner Light" episode of Next Generation might be the best SF I've ever viewed. The various movies using the original crew hewed fairly closely to the style of the TV franchise, but the reboot movies with new actors have been less interesting. This one is just about a dead loss, replete with intergalactic car chase scenes, gratuitous violence, and a lack of plot. I can only guess that the Star Trek folks want to pick up a piece of the Star Wars audience. Forget this DVD; read something by Ursula LeGuin or one of the newer writers. You won't regret it.

Despite a liberal sprinkling of references to former Star Trek films as well as the original TV series—most of which will only be caught by fanatical fans anyway—Gene Roddenberry’s grand future vision is not very evident here. Kirk (Chris Pine) hotdogs it with wild abandon, Scotty (Simon Pegg) flusters, Bones and Spock (Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto) spar, but the bonhomie which came so easily to the original cast seems forced and obligatory in this chapter of the franchise causing jokes to fall flat and characters to become mere facsimiles—Urban cocks his eyebrow just like DeForest Kelley! Quinto looks bemused just like Leonard Nimoy! Zoe Saldana opens hailing frequencies just like Nichelle Nichols! And that plot! Suffering from far too many Hail Mary escapes and comic book technology (more science huh? than science fiction) just to bring us to a big letdown and cursory epilogue. But being directed by Justin “Fast & Furious” Lin and produced by JJ Abrams there is no shortage of pyrotechnics with things blowing up in your face, super cool toys (holographic Amazons and space bees!) and edge-of-your-seat showdowns which owe a debt of gratitude to Lucas’ "Star Wars". And Lin’s fast and furious editing is almost enough to distract us from the many inanities while the mysterious planet, a combination of CGI and BC backcountry, is pretty to look at though hardly “alien”. I appreciated the little gay touch as well even if George Takei didn’t. As an instalment in the Star Trek omnibus, "Beyond" is a weak link indeed—but as a silly summer popcorn muncher it streaks across your retinas with all cylinders firing. Who could have dreamed that the Beastie Boys would one day save the universe? Ha!

Interminable action sequences and an utter waste of the talents of Idris Elba.

Probably my favorite of the reboot movies. It's the closet one to get the feelings of the original series.

Do not expect here a shred of the complex plots and intriguing ethical issues explored in TNG and Voyager. However if you enjoy simplistic silly plots with ceaseless action, you'll be happy.

I liked the science fiction DVD. I am a Trekkie. I loved the computer graphics. It was well done. The plot was strong and had a purpose. It was well acted. I also like stories about aliens. It is possibly to violent for children. The sexuality is mostly subtle. It might be scary for young children.

Star Trek Beyond is the third movie in the newest Star Trek series of movies. The movie begins with the Starship Enterprise having to crash-land on a mysterious world, after a surprise attack in outer space. Krall, a lizard-like dictator who derives his energy by sucking the life out of his victims, is the one responsible. Aboard The badly damaged Starship Enterprise is an important and valuable artifact that Krall needs. Left stranded in a rugged wilderness, Captain James T. Kirk, Commander Spock, and the remaining of the crew have to now battle a deadly alien race while simultaneously trying to find a way to escape the hostile planet. If you enjoyed Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, I would definitely recommend watching Star Trek Beyond. The most interesting part of the movie is that the crew is abandoned on the planet they crash land on and they have little technology at their disposal. We really get to see how intuitive the characters are as they continue to save the day. This is a great family movie. If I had to rate this movie, I would rate it five out of five stars. @Sapphirereads of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

Star Trek Beyond is the third movie in the new Star Trek movie series. Being released in 2016 you can usually expect fantastic makeup and CGI which is exactly what Star Trek Beyond delivers. The characters are well cast, Chris Pine does an excellent job staying true to his original character and Zachary Quinto feels like he was born for the role. The story is great, and well told and follows the canon literature, and original series. The villain is great and well created and many of the scenes in the movie were well put together, if some of them are somewhat predictable. Overall, if you like the sci-fi genre, then the Star Trek series, including Star Trek Beyond, are great and worth the watch. 4/5 Stars.

How do we get out of this place, Spock? We got no ship,no crew.
-We will do what we have always done, Jim. We will find hope in the impossible.

I'm pretty sure this's a protoplaser. It can stop internal damaging. At least that's my hope.

My grand nanny used to say that you can not break sticks in a bundle. You are part of something big, lassie. I will never give up on you. That is what being part of crew is all about.

Scotty, can you get this thing start?
-What, start it? Yes. Flying is certainly a different thing. These old vessels were built in space. They were not supposed to take off from atmosphere.
Let's get it out of here.
-They called this Starship for a reason, captain.

Plenty more quotes already in IMDb as this one:
Captain's Log, Stardate 2263.2. Today is our 966th day in deep space - A little under three years into our five year mission. ... We continue to search for new lifeforms in order to establish firm diplomatic ties. Our extended time in uncharted territory has stretched the ship's mechanical capacities but fortunately our engineering department, led by Mr. Scott, is more than up to the job. The ship aside, prolong cohabitation has definitely had effects on the interpersonal dynamics. Some experiences for the better and some for the worse. As for me, things have started to feel a little episodic. The farther out we go, the more I find myself wondering what it is we are trying to accomplish. But if the universe is truly endless, then we are not striving for something forever out of reach.

When they are looking for the prisoners. Spock asks if they could separate the radiation of a Vulcan stone necklace from the surrounding ground radiation.
Bones: “You gave your girlfriend radioactive jewelry?”
Spock: “The emission is harmless, just easy to fine.”
Bones: “You gave your girlfriend a tracking device?”
Pause . . .
Spock: as others look at him, “That was not my intention.”
