A beautiful and moving children's book that is part biography and part picture book with poetry interwoven throughout. This book tells the tragic story of Kaneko Misuzu (in English: Misuzu Kaneko) and showcases some of her most brilliant, empathetic, and profound poetry. Though some of the themes in this book may be a bit mature for some children, removing the tragedy of Kaneko's life would do her and her poetry a disservice. This book is thoughtful, colorful, and imbued with a quiet strength everyone might benefit from. (Note: Most of the poetry is written in the original Japanese along side the English translations.)
