First half of the book is really good and the illustrations are wonderful. Then the story gets a little confusing with the introduction of the stuffed animal that could be confused as a third character. Further along our best friends get into fight which includes hitting and pushing which I found pretty disappointing.

Very nice book and I love the pictures (M-L Gay is my favorite illustrator and I love her Stella series). It helped to show my kids how conflicts might get resolved. Very positive book, especially if your child does not know how to recover from a conflict and gets upset. Now I say, do it like tiger, smile, forgive and play again. Very beautiful book.

I read this with my five year old. There were two things that stood out to me. First, about halfway through the book, Badger is referred to as "she." Both my son and I took note of this with some surprise and excitement. So, that's where we are with gender expectations in 2016 I guess. But all the same, I appreciate that the author made one of the two characters a female and didn't make a big deal about it by defining her character by this sole characteristic or bedazzling her in pink accessories. Second, the book's take home message that friends fight sometime and can still make up and be friends again is always a good lesson to revisit. I was not a fan of how this process was actually implemented in this tale (no understanding about the fight, just comic relief leading to reconciliation). However, the theme lead me to start a meaningful conversation with my son about constructive ways to handle fights with friends.
