Fun to see the behind the scenes development ofna collection. The different ways it comes to fruition and all the different people that make it happen. My mother is a costume designer and I grew up watching her create as a single person. So amazing to see what happens in the House of Dior and how they maintain their classic style.

I loved this documentary. If you like fashion it is wonderful to watch a design from conception to first drafts in white muslin, to choosing the fabric, to creating the final outfit. The unique roles of each person involved in the process is revealed as you watch them at work on their own and with the whole team. Each piece of the work was placed within the framework of Christian Dior's memories so there were videos and pictures of him at work, his collections which gave greater texture to the story being revealed.

As a seamstress, as someone who enjoys fashion I found this fascinating. I watched it twice. It was so personal, so revealing, so very enjoyable.

Interesting movie. I did not realize that so much work went into the Fashion Shows, and creating some wonderful clothes. what a talented group of people.

A well-composed documentary with and interesting structure and subject matter. It follows the most recent artistic director at Dior, juxtaposing his experience with that written by Christian Dior in his autobiography. Significant credit is given to the ateliers, whose skill, craftsmanship and creativity is fascinating. The ateliers could carry an entire documentary themselves.

This is a very well done documentary about the refined world of haute couture.
It focus's on arrival of Raf Simons at Dior to replace fired head designer John Galliano who created a scandal after making racist anti-semitic remarks in public
Simon's seems a very shut down guy, walking around with his arms folded tightly in front of him and when he speaks he has his hand in front of his mouth. He spends a lot of time looking for inspiration while everyone around him works.
The actual structure of these fashion houses is very hierarchal as the ateliers {workshops} where the clothes are actually constructed are staffed with talented hard working people but Simons is 'top dog' and calls the shots.
It is about 3/4 of the way through the documentary we see him actually pinning/fitting clothes most of the time it's everyone else doing the work.
Anyway he has only 8 weeks to get a collection together and finally it is presented to adoring Dior fans in an 'over the top' flower filled house.
Interspersed in the doc. are readings from the diary of the House of Dior founder, Christian Dior, these are fascinating as it reveals his struggles and what inspired him.
Raf Simons left after 3 years at Dior stating 'the workload was too much'. He was criticized in the media for refusing to have women of colour as models.
All i can say is that these 'prima donna' designers seem to have a lot of problems and really could not accomplish anything without the mostly unrecognized help and talent of so many.

To the reviewer below, fashion is not gender specific. The film is observational cinema or cinema verite style which takes effort to be done well and is an acquired taste. I just didn't care for Raf and from the beginning felt he was inexperienced, ill-suited to take over, and wouldn't last long. Indeed, he left Dior after a short time. There was nothing really to see even fashion-wise other than the return of dresses with pockets. Very uninspiring film. Pass.

the movie is rated R for "some language". Not even 14+, but R. However I marked it as suitable for all ages because "some language" here is one single F word that you wouldn't even notice if you don't pay special attention. No nudity, no violence, no obscenity whatsoever. If your child is interested in fashion, go ahead and let her watch it. It is a great movie.
