Absolutely fascinating, with characters that will stay with me forever.
I had problems caring at a certain point, (about 2/3 of the way through) and wanted to read ahead to make things move along, but I was glad I stuck with it.
Marvellously real portrait of gay love.

Ben Grunewald, the main character, had aspects of many friends, past and present, as well as myself. Light, heavy, dark, sorrowful, messy, heartbreaking......just like real life!

Wow franque your words paint a portrait well exceeding your 3.5 star review! Generally unwholesome elderly sex predator protags are described on the cover copy as literary and I have no doubt the grammatical errors were ironic. I am putting this on my completed shelf. Five stars.

Definitely 3 1/2 stars because the stories within the story were poignant & entertaining but the grammar errors & would be crescendo of the flat ending made the book as a whole feel a bit deflated. The main character was very self centered & to a degree seemed like an older man who was always preying on younger people to give him what he wanted i.e. love, sex, spiritual experience, affection, medical care. In this way the protagonist Ben was annoying, yet every time I judged his weakness I found myself considering my own shortcomings that are/were similar, thusly I began to understand & empathize with him more. Though this book is rather anti Catholic & pro new ageism, even as a Christian I found myself hoping he would "find himself" rather than rely on his own selfish mind & the adorations of the people that surrounded him. Worth a read but beware of those typos which really sully any book, but especially books like this where emotional exploration deserves fully developed literary excellence.

though perhaps a little too-detailed, a poignant, brave look at love unrequited, love changing...
