Great Classic. This seems to me to be Lew Wallace's one hit wonder. Superb realism, although I know anyone but the diehard reader will possibly get turned off by the wordiness of descriptions and older language and dialogue. No problem for me though, when the story is this good.

After an unexpected accident, Ben Hur, a Jewish prince and merchant of Jerusalem, is arrested and sold as a slave. Through his courage and fortitude, he works himself out of serfdom and into a respected Roman family. Determined to get revenge and enact destruction on his enemies, he encounters the person of Christ and learns the value of mercy and forgiveness. One of the most widely read novels of the 19th century!
