Interesting concept for a road trip! The basic information regarding some endangered species of North America and the field of conservation biology was enlightening. I felt the tone of the book was a bit condescending in some areas, and some of the adventures the family experienced were not really book-worthy material. A fairly quick, easy-read if you're looking for a "reality-tv type" book.

I loved going along for the ride (minus the poison oak) and learning about conservation biology along the way. The book manages to be both a light, fun read and full of thorny issues about the rapidly changing ecological balance in North America.

When I reserved this book I didn't pay attention and didn't realize it was about a family with small children trying to see endangered species. (I was more interested in the road trip aspect.) This book is kind of ok.. other times it is like being forced to watch somebody's home movies/slide show. Not interested to hear about diaper changes or toddler tantrums.
