I'm a Motley/GNR/Halen trainweck kind of guy - Morrissey's book was a refreshing, intelligent read. I won't be buying a Smith's/Morrissey album anytime soon but I would highly recommend this book for all musicians. I went after this book after seeing him interviewed on a NY Dolls doc/dvd....
eloquent ......ambiguous...... timeless ..... classic..... just like the man himself ....
I am a fan of the Smiths but I had a terribly hard time reading this. A lot of patting himself on the back. Very revisionist.I sloughed on to the end hoping there would be so some form of redemption or self analysis. Anything! But no--just disappointment. Well at least his lyrics are great! Enjoyed it a lot, but this one is really just for die-hard Morrissey fans!
A fascinating autobiography. He's a wonderful writer. Many funny passages. Recommend!
Call me prejudiced but he's as whiny in his memoir as in his public persona.
