Readers of physical books leave traces: marginalia, slips of paper, fingerprints, highlighting, inscriptions. All books have histories, and libraries are not just collections of books and databases but a medium of long-distance communication with other writers and readers.

I could have done with less talking, more found objects/notes in books. This book was not what I expected nor desired.

Letters to a Future Lover could be seen as a "gimmick" book. It is a series of essays based on marginalia or other ideas found in books and libraries by the author, Ander Monson. The author originally "published" the book by leaving 6" x 9" cards in the libraries where he found the original inspiration. It is a small book (both few pages, and physically small) but it took me ten days to read. Each essay requires some time to absorb. It feels like it should be required reading for librarians, as there is much about books and libraries and the past and future of each. It has a local reference as well as some of the "books" were found at KSU. It was enjoyable not NOT an easy or quick read.

Only if you're in the mood for overly precious & self-important, "literary" , academic writing.
