An obscure man with a vertical head of hair is living with his spaced-out girlfriend and their fetus-like child. By the end of the film, Henry is decapitated and processed into erasers in this bizarre horror film which closely approaches a nightmare.

...everything is fine...

David Lynch creates a unique cinematic world in his first full length film- one that is disturbing and bizarre- and yet it parallels our own in many ways. This movie isn't for everyone- but that doesn't mean that this film isn't a classic- IT IS A CLASSIC! I'm not sure when the term " slow " began being used to describe films that have a different pace from the split second attention span/ bon bon films that have become standard fare for most people nowadays- but " slow " isn't a catch all term that can be slapped on anything that doesn't fit certain aesthetic criteria- ie. what is considered to be " normal ".

Weird, but compelling.

David Lynch at his David Lynch-iest. Our protagonist navigates relationships with self and others in a strange, dystopian-looking world. Shot over several years and with minimal dialogue, this movie is an unnerving classic of the genre and very thought provoking, to say the least.

This is a nightmare - revolting - very sad - emotionally hurtful - true horror - taboo - macabre - complete with an unlikable protagonist - violates all moral expectations - a Dance of Death - 1/2 star because it is a well executed Black comedy/Cringe comedy!

What's going on? Ewwww. Slow and disturbing and disgusting. Someone must have had ongoing nightmares and decided to make a movie about them.

One of the strangest movies I have ever seen. Now it's a a cult classic.

Perhaps the only truly surrealistic film in the history of the world cinema.

A boring, slow and strange tale; the symbolism is somewhat obscure, and some of the special effects are crude.

Is Eraserhead weird? Yes, it is. ~~~ Is Eraserhead "out there"? Most definitely. ~~~ Does its story promote sharp thinking and inspire bright ideas? Nope. It does not. It numbs and paralyzes clear thought like the dull thud of a sledgehammer-blow delivered directly to the skull. ~~~ If you're seriously looking for a movie that actually induces brain-freeze (without the aid of drugs), then look no further than Eraserhead. ~~~ Here's a movie that probably contains more "WTF?" moments than any other mainstream film in existence. ~~~ Written & directed by David Lynch, Eraserhead is, without question, really terrible storytelling. Neither meaningful nor inspiring, this film obviously came from a director who was looking down his lofty nose at his audience and saying, loudly & clearly - "Ponder this, you stupid, low-life peasants!" ~~~ As far as I'm concerned the only noteworthy aspect about Eraserhead was its (sometimes) startling b&w camera-work. This film nearly put me right off to sleep more than once.

Mr. X: "Well Henry, what do you know?" Henry Spencer: "Oh, I don't know much of anything."

Mr. X: "I thought I heard a stranger. We've got chicken tonight. Strangest damn things. They're man made. Little damn things. Smaller than my fist. But they're new. Hi, I'm Bill." Henry Spencer: "Hello there. I'm Henry." Mrs. X: "Henry works at LaPelle's Factory." Mr. X: "Oh. Printing's your business? Plumbing's mine. For thirty years now. I've watched this neighborhood change from pastures to the hell-hole it is now!" Mary X: "Dad!" Mrs. X: "Bill!" Mr. X: "I put every damn pipe in this neighborhood. People think that pipes grow in their homes. But they sure as hell don't! Look at my knees! Look at my knees!!"
