Although this isn’t the book that has the most action (actually it probably has the least) I thought that it was a wonderful read, because Brian describes everything so perfectly in this book that I feel like I was with Brian. Beautiful description. Would definitely recommend.

This is (in my opinion) the best of the books in this series. There's not a whole lot of action, but it's a beautiful description of how Brian feels the need to return to the wilderness, and what awaits him there.
After spending the winter in the wilderness (Paulsen incorporates the "what-if" scenario from Brian's Winter into this book), Brian returns to his "normal" life of school and friends, but something just doesn't feel right. He doesn't care about the little things that other students are talking about - like girlfriends, and television shows, etc. - and he starts becoming more isolated. After an incident with a bully, where Brian reverts to his wilderness self and seriously injures the other student, he is required to spend time with a therapist. As he describes his survival experiences to the therapist, he comes to the realization that he wants (no, needs) to go back to the wilderness. This book is all about that trip and about Brian's spiritual awakening.
