Summary
Add a SummaryOpen this book and you’ll see the following inscription written in a flowery hand. “Happy Birthday, Alexander! To my little birthday bunny on his special day. Love, Gran Gran.” It quickly becomes apparent that Gran Gran’s present to Alex, a poor man’s Little Golden Book-esque bit of schlock called Birthday Bunny was evidently not doing it for her beloved grandson. The entire book looks as though it has been scribbled with a thick black pencil. These aren’t random scribbles though. Oh me, oh my, no. Alex has vastly improved what once was a limp tale about a bunny that thinks everyone has forgotten his very special day. Under Alex’s hand sentences are reworded, illustrations are updated, and the new plot concerns a bunny supervillain bent on world destruction. The only one who can stop him? A boy conveniently named Alex who is the only one with sufficient chops to take the bunny down.

Add a CommentApparently Alexander does not like the “Birthday Bunny” book from his Gran Gran. With a pencil Alexander has gone to work; Birthday Bunny becomes Battle Bunny! Alexander’s imagination and pencil change this sweet story into the tale of Battle Bunny`s Evil Plan. With a saw in hand he heads into the forest where he meets Crow and his megatron bombs, Badger and his furious claw, and Sergeant Squirrel of the Rabbit Police Force. Can none of these animals stop Battle Bunny’s rampage? And what about Alex? Will he be able to stop the evil deeds of Battle Bunny and his zombie army? With clever illustrations and re- illustrations, this book will leave you laughing. Grab a copy and let the battle begin!
The story of a very happy bunny's special day morphs into an action-packed quest for world domination. Battle Bunny cuts down trees, fights a badger for his championship wrestling belt, and plots how to best carry out his evil plan.

What’s a boy to do when he receives a syrupy sweet story as a gift? Transform it into an epic fight between the forces of good and evil. A hilariously subversive “revision”.
A hilarious story in which a boy named Alex changes a story about a birthday bunny into a story about an evil bunny who tries to take over the forest.
Another brilliant idea by Scieszka: hilariously 'defacing' of an easy fiction book by an older kid who hates the smarmy story he receives from his well-meaning grandma. (Only hope this doesn't encourage patrons to do this to other library books!)
Best creative prompt in book form ever! Brilliant idea brilliantly executed. Can be consumed--and imitated--as pure fun or entertainingly analyzed in ways that could lead to some very deep thoughts (head to mybirthdaybunny.com for a curriculum guide and to print your own "pure" copy of Birthday Bunny to deface yourself and share on the book's Tumblr).
Hahahaha. Very cute.
Parents and children have fought the disparate concepts of creativity vs. law & order since the first toddler took a crayon in a chubby little hand and created a masterpiece on the dining room walls. Battle Bunny just cranks that fight up to eleven.
This book is hilarious. Check out the book trailer http://youtu.be/XzWbWFlfM9g
