I confess, I picked this up because it had Idaho in the title. But what luck! It turned out to be quite a good book of short stories. Vestal’s storytelling method ranges from historical fiction to light fantasy to straight realism, but all in service of his characters. And oh, these characters – such loners! – are compelling, if not always likeable.

Try one a day over lunch.

Human flaws and less than ideal choices, yes, the book covers that.
Subjects are strictly western and not as timeless as I was expecting.
