Uneasy mix, the author seemed to be looking for a blend of Jane Austen and Agatha Christie. She didn't find it.
The book was okay – but not one of my favorites.
Anna Dean crafts a good Victorian mystery. There are clues, a murder, suspense, and a cast of characters easily identifiable. Dido Kent is an interesting character who is not afraid to ask the questions that may very well put her own life in danger. Think the sequel will be worth reading as well.
Another sleuthing spinster that solves the problems and mysteries of those around her who can't seem to behave themselves. It is an easy read, light but it still held my attention.
The first chapter could probably be reduced to a single sentence, and the extraneous description omitted.
