A terrific musical! It has a great cast, the singing and dancing are excellent, and the screenplay is funny. Very entertaining.
Very Good 1949 Hollywood version of Broadway musical. especially the dance sequences. I'm now a big fan of Betty Garrett and, had to look her up on Wikipedia, Vera-Ellen.
Fun comic elements, too.
Had to look hard to recognize Frank Sinatra, who was 34 at the time.
Not the greatest thing they ever did ...
Buried treasure has surfaced again in "On the Town". KCLS has 7 copies and 3 patrons have checked out a copy. The reviews thus far have been from on star to five stars. I originally saw highlights in the box set of DVD's titled "That's Entertainment". The clip showed two sailors, Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, singing and dancing aboard a ship. I said I would watch that movie one day and now I have. I simply fell In love with the movie. Betty Garrett and Ann Miller are two beautiful singers and dancers who hook up with these two sailors. The shots of NYC and the dancing without a soundstage make this film special. Now MGM thought it good enough to make the highlights of their greatest musicals on film. I loved it myself. You be the final judge though. Please watch it if you like musicals, it is both a good story and good music and dancing. Leave me your review here on this web site. Thanks for reading the above!
lots of music and dancing, lots of NY sites and sounds. nice fluff movie. not much to it.
A lot of classic songs, I finally have the lyrics to "New York, New York" down!
One of the great Sinatra and Kelly pairings. An absolute delight!
