I was completely taken by Akerman's Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, but this one - not so much. watching her eat the bag of sugar had me questioning her sanity and my own.

Identity, authority, body, freedom, joy, boundlessness, education, isolation, how many themes can one movie work with and do it so well. I feel like nothing was forced on the viewer; neither the story nor the acting had false presentation. Left me immersed in a kind of meditative state of reflection. The main character manages to approach the world with little to no concern for authoritative traditions. Some people just have that ability, and to see an actor do that is amazing.

One commentator pointed out the joy in the Norweigan drama, Happy Happy; I think that the final scene of Je, tu, il, elle mirrors that same joy but from a radically different perspective.

I thought this was a pretty good movie actually. Avant garde film making, may not be for everybody. B/W only, it does tend to go slowly at times, and not make complete sense. Just like real life. A single tastefully done scene might be too explicit for some viewers, but it was necessary for the stream of concious technique the director-writer team were trying to achieve. All in all I'd say it was worth seeing. Especially for those who liked movies similar, like "The Incredible Lightness of Being".

I really dig the actresses' "natural" presentation!

Boring...boring...at leat a quarter of the movie is dedictated to a sex scene ...also boring. Guess the director who is also the main actor wanted to fil her sexual exploits....
