His methods use punishment and other tactics that will scare and hurt dogs. That certainly does not help them be happy. To really help your dog be happy and well behaved, look for books and videos by trainers like Karen Pryor,
Patricia McConnell, Jean Donaldson,

The latest in a string of books by the world's most famous dog trainer, Cesar Millan's "Short Guide to a Happy Dog" contains familiar advice on how to become a "calm assertive" pack leader. As he always says, unstable human energy creates an anxious, unstable dog.

Even when Millan simply repackages his usual information and guidance into a different format, he piques interest and merits attention. In many ways, "Short Guide" represents his most comprehensible work; you don't have to read it cover to cover but can certainly glean something useful from each chapter. Such chapters include "principles for a balanced dog," "how to choose the right dog for you" and "how to deal with your dog's life cycle changes."

Anyone considering buying a puppy or adopting a rescue would benefit from reading his section on choosing the right dog. Milan explains how to assess your own lifestyle and choose an appropriate breed. A useful little package of wisdom recommended for both present and future dog owners.
