Iejoyed this book verymcuh. A rare glimpse at what went on “behind the curtain” as the Vatican attempted to deal with the priestly sex-abuse scandal and the money problems that became obvious toward the end of Pope Benedict’s reign. It was written in 2013 and was published before Benedict retired and Francis was elected Pope, so there is nothing about that decisions on the part of Benedict or the thinking of the Cardinals who elected Francis. I think the book probably portrays a pretty honest look at the subjects it takes on, but I think the author is a little apologetic for Benedict.

Great writing. Full of juicy gossip about the powerful old boys' club.
