In the beginning of the book Emma tries to sneak out of Rutherford's Girls Dormitory to see a boy. She finds herself expelled. Emma returns to New York with her family to find out that her dad is running for President. She gets aggravated and dies her hair purple. She has a new beginning, one with a little more style and class.
