Modern Family takes a refreshing and funny view of what it means to raise a family in this hectic day and age. Multicultural relationships, adoption, and same-sex marriage are just a few of the timely issues faced by the show's three wildly-diverse broods. No matter the size or shape, family always comes first in this hilariously 'modern' look at life, love, and laughter.

I hate this show. I don't know why it's so popular. I've given it several tries and it just makes me feel tense and angry. I can't stand the mother (Claire) always jabbing her pointy fingers during her psychotic controlling rants. The veins in her neck bulging and her voice cracking as she manipulates and schemes her way to revenge against everyone including her kids and husband. Wow! How is that funny? I also can't stand Mitch and Cam. They are nasty to their family and to each other. Bizarre relationship based on insecurities and neurosis. The flapping of their hands every time they speak, ugh! It's like they're being attacked by a swarm of angry invisible wasps. What is up with that pinky in the air, touch the eyebrow after each one of Mitch's lines? I hate the kids especially Luke, always lisping and talking out of the side of his mouth. That Lily kid is off putting in her snarky way, and she's a terrible actress. Yes I get that she's only a kid, but still she's annoying. Why this show has lasted for 11 years I'll never know.

Beginning in 2009, the hit show Modern Family, follows the lives of Jay Pritchett, his daughter Clare Dunphy, his son Mitchell Pritchett and their families. I began watching with high hopes for the Golden Globe and Emmy award winner, but in the end I found myself unsatisfied. Admittingly, with 24 episodes I can't describe the show as "laugh out loud comedy". Some parts seemed very cliched and predictable, and at points the characters seemed unrealistically exaggerated. I think it's the exaggeration that keeps people watching the show. The stark contrast yet relatable feeling of watching other families problems is entertaining. I'll probably try to watch the second season just to see how the show unfolds. 3 Stars

This show is the best.

I can't figure the popularity of this show, would say that at times it is mildly amusing but nothing like laugh at loud comedy. The characters within these suburban "modern families" are portrayed as stereotypical, cliched and shallow. The plot lines of their daily lives are contrived, exaggerated and unrealistic. Wonder if admirers identify with the family members which accounts for its popularity?

The characters are quickly well-defined and the incongruity & contrast of normal expectations to humorous outcomes is fast-paced and well presented in a documentary style. The hand held camera & quick edits that include personal retrospective interviews juxtaposed with regular scenes add to the entertainment value.
