Alex is a teenager with a dark secret. Soon after her birth, her parents decide to leave Buenos Aires to settle in an isolated wooden house tucked away in the dunes of the Uruguayan shoreline. As Alex begins to explore her sexuality, her mother invites friends from Buenos Aires to come for a visit with their 16-year-old son Álvaro. Álvaro's father is a plastic surgeon who accepted the invitation because of his medical concern for Alex. The inevitable attraction between the teenagers forces both families to face their worst fears. As rumors begin to spread, the town's fascination with Alex becomes dangerous.

A very good movie about transgender children and the issues they and their parents have to encounter and deal with. The acting is very good without being artificial. It is a movie that makes you think and empathize with others.

I first saw this movie a number of years ago, before the extended library website allowed for comments. I recently saw the trailer for it again, and was reminded what a well done, sensitive and provocative movie this is. I think it is a movie everyone should see, not only because of how well crafted it is, but because of its educative qualities.

The majority of people fit relatively neatly into a sex and gender, and we tend to assume that of others. This movie's characters give a peek into the difficulties for those who do not easily fit into those categories have to cope with, most often due to the lack of understanding by others.

If nothing else, this movie leaves each of us to question our own attitudes and whether we are open and supportive to the many variations within humanity.

Provocative topic and superly directed and acted.

Extremely provocative and heart-wrenching film with performances that are equally evocative! Forces us, as the audience, to consider not only the nature of intersex individuals but also the great (and, in my opinion, often arbitrary) importance we place on being able to classify and segregate people based upon "gender".
