Thank you, Patrick O'Brian, for leaving us such a beautiful, seafaring, character-driven series, and so very many treasured books.

A classic seafaring tale, and brought to life by some extraordinary narration on the part of Mr Vance. Listen in, and immerse yourself in a world and way of life that's entirely vanished from this Earth...

A great read! Not just for those who love naval battles, but also those who enjoy international political intrigues and bird watching! And Patrick O'Brian's gentle, deft touch and snese of humour are always a pleasure to read!

Very talented narrator. This book is so well researched and highly detailed. The storyline is somewhat lacking but if you are a person who enjoys the details, than you will find it to be an excellent portrayal of life on a ship during the Napoleonic Wars. I was so impressed by the skill of the narrator that I finished the book just to enjoy the narration.
I'm not sure the story would have held my attention to the end if I had been reading it myself.
