Another good Dept. Q story. One can't help but like Assad a lot. Still not sure what's up with Rose and Yrsa but hopefully some background on Rose/Yrsa and Assad with be forthcoming. Look forward to reading number 4 but since I have read…

After listening to the first of Department Q's stories on audio, I picked up this one as a 'Trick or Treat' brown-bag book at the library. It was fun to read about Carl and Assad tackling another cold case and inserting themselves into the…

Not my first 'Q' novel. But this one seemed too long, with too much 'inner' stories that dragged the story along. All could have been said inside 350 pages if the author had trimmed it a bit. The action would have been faster which would…

Bizarre plot about a man who has carefully planned every move he makes as he marries, has affairs, wins the trust of families, kidnaps and murders their children and gets ransom to boot. When that many people are involved, things are bound…

Without giving too much away- a boy who has been kidnapped writes a message in a bottle explaining his dire situation. Years later, Detective Carl Morck receives the bottle and the mystery unfolds. This is a great novel that kept me on my…

The third book in this excellent series. Best to read the series in order as you learn more about each character in each successive book. The process of unravelling a cold case 'clue by clue' is very well done and holds your interest from…

Carl and Assad just get more interesting with each book. This one is a "can't put it down" story that both broke my heart and made me furious. The police are so overwhelmed with cases, so short staffed and so disorganized by government's…

This is the second read by the author & I'm still undecided. The Scandinavian writers offer a new vista of crime in 'another world' I've enjoyed. Because the story jumps back/forth I wonder if this is simply 'fancy footwork' meant to…

Another excellent book in an altogether excellent series by author, Jussi Adler-Olsen. Haven't ever really enjoyed any cop series in the past, but this writer is original in all of his novels.

Just when I feel I should give up on the Department Q series it draws me back in. These are dark Danish stories so be forewarned. If you liked the Stieg Larson or Wallander books you'd probably like these as well. No strong woman…

This is the second Adler-Olsen novel I have read. It, along with several other translations from Scandinavian languages, has a weird feel. The sentence structure is often odd, and the dialogue seems to be translated from one of those…

excellent development of key characters along with supplementary people. Motives explained well - some directly, yet the indirect is not too difficult to understand. It was very difficult to put this book down.

suspenseful in several parts. didn't like the 'hollywood' ending.

A good read. The characters continue to develop, although more questions are provoked than answered about many of the re-occuring main characters. Best ending of the Department Q series.

This is an absolute page-turner with a great plot, plenty of action, humor, and just enough character development to add interest but not to detract from the mystery at hand.
