A Reality Check on Background Checks: Know Your Rights Under Minnesota’s Clean Slate Law

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Minneapolis Central

Description

Beginning in 2025, the Clean Slate Act went into effect to automatically seal eligible criminal records and reduce barriers to employment, housing, and other opportunities. However, many eligible people are still unsure how it works and what their rights are. In this workshop we will cover how to check if you’re eligible, how to get a copy of your records, what rights you have, and what you can do if problems come up. This session is part of a larger research project to understand whether the Clean Slate law is working as intended and whether private background check companies are complying. Presented by Dr. Katie Remington Cunningham of the Minnesota Justice Research Center and Dr. Robert Stewart of the University of Maryland.

This event is part of the Coming Home Reentry Resource Fair. Click here to register.
