For Nonfiction Writers: Personal Essay vs. Memoir

1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
St. Louis Park

Description

In this session, we will analyze the difference between personal essay and memoir. Beginning with general definitions of each of these two popular forms of creative nonfiction, we will compare and contrast, generating experiences or topics that would make for impactful personal essays, and memorable times or turning points in writers’ lives that would make for meaningful pieces of memoir. We will begin drafting works of both personal essay and memoir. Part of a four-part series, “For Nonfiction Writers.” Attendance at all four sessions not required. Collaborator: The Loft Literary Center. This program is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
