Vinyl Revival: The Art and Science of DJing

Description

Vinyl Revival Artist in Residence DJ Kool Akiem will give an introduction to DJ equipment, styles, skills and vocational possibilities. Included will be sound basics, digital audio file types, legal/ethical questions of downloading music, song library management, different approaches to DJing, hands-on basic techniques, and more.

DJ Kool Akiem is a renowned DJ, producer of critically-acclaimed albums, pioneer of the Twin Cities hip-hop community, and has toured nationally and internationally. Currently, Akiem teaches at McNally Smith College of Music, serves on the COMPAS teaching artist roster, and mentors youth and emerging artists.

Vinyl Revival is a series of artist residencies, programs and listening opportunities at Minneapolis Central Library. Funded by Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
